SIXTEENTH ANNUAL
YOUNG ARTISTS COMPETITION

Top prize of $1,000 goes to first place winners.

The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra will host its Sixteenth Annual Young Artists Competition in 2010.  Local student instrumentalists will vie for a cash honorarium and a chance to perform with The VSO on April 17 and 18, 2010 at Skyview High School Concert Hall in Vancouver.

The competition is open to all students 18 years or younger (as of January 1, 2010).    Contestants must currently be studying with a music teacher and must reside within a fifty-mile radius of Vancouver, WA.  Previous first-place winners of this competition are not eligible.  The musical selection shall consist of standard concerto repertoire and must be less than fifteen minutes in length.  Deadline for submission of the entry form, $25 entry fee and audition CD is January 4, 2010.

Professional musicians in each category will select the finalists.  Up to nine finalists will perform “concert style” before a panel of judges also comprised of professional musicians.  The final competition of the top three finalists in each category will be held March 7, 2010 at the Royal Durst Theatre at the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics.  Winning amounts are $1,000 for first place, $500 for second place and $250 for third place in the three categories of strings, piano and brass/woodwinds/percussion.

Applications and information may be obtained by contacting The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra at (360) 735-7278 or at on this site.  All applicants will be notified of the preliminary judging decision during the week of February 1, 2010.
