THE VSO ANNOUNCES 16th ANNUAL YOUNG ARTISTS COMPETITION.
Three Winners to perform as guest soloists with the
Vancouver Symphony Orchestra April 17 & 18, 2010.
The Young Artists Competition is an integral part of The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra’s commitment to the musical advancement of the youth of Southwest Washington. Music students 18 years (by January 1, 2010) and younger compete in piano, strings or brass/woodwinds/percussion. A panel of judges selects the competition finalists and winners perform with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra at our April concert.
Young Artists Competition Adjudication Guidelines
The purpose of the Young Artists Competition is to select three soloists to perform with The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra during the April subscription concert series. Winners will be selected based on their musical ability.
One soloist in each of the three categories (piano; strings; brass / woodwinds / percussion) will be selected. If there are no eligible soloists in any category, no soloist will be selected. It is permissible to have only one or two winners. More than one soloist/winner in each category is not allowed. Judges will base their decision solely on the live final audition.
Judges will not have access to biographical information about the candidates including: age, teachers and previous performance experiences. Soloist must play without accompanist.
The Music Director reserves the right to ask a soloist to perform a different concerto if there is an obstacle to performing the winning concerto (i.e. music is not obtainable or selection is too long).
