Ellen Hoxie, Violin

Ellen is one of transplanted midwesterners in The VSO, having moved to the Pacific Northwest at the urging of friends from Colorado in 2005.  A native of Indianapolis, Ellen has always loved the violin and wanted to play this instrument.

Thank goodness adult friends who were violinists encouraged her to play.

She and her siblings and grew up around music and her parents, though not professional musicians, enjoyed playing and listening to many styles.  She’s played the violin since the age of ten, and has played in numerous regional orchestras throughout her career.

Ellen received her Bachelor of Music Education from The University of Houston.  She then got her Master’s Degree in Violin Performance from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.

She enjoys performing with symphonies, chamber ensembles and  recording orchestras, and really loves hiking, back-packing and cross-country skiing.  Recently, Ellen has  started investigating wines, particularly red and is quite partial to her favorite grape, the Sangiovese.

The best news?   Her recent engagement means a wedding in March, 2010.
