John Northe, Trombone
John has a long and varied history of professional playing the Portland/Vancouver area. He has played nearly 40 years as a member of AFofM local 99 having joined while in college. He has played for The VSO for ten years.
John has played in over thirty Broadway touring company musicals such as Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Producers, Chicago, Chorus Line and High School Musical. He has played with the Portland Opera, the Columbia Symphony, the Portland Festival Symphony and the Norman Leyden Pops Orchestra.
John has played with the Woody Hite Big Band, Johnny Reitz orchestra, and the Queen of the West cruise ship band and has played in backup bands for such names as Tony Bennett, Rosemary Clooney, Bob Hope, Natalie Cole, Louie Belson, Stan Kenton, Roy Clark and Mel Torme.
Early in his career he played traditional Dixieland jazz with John McKinley, Monte Balou, Jim Goodwin and others. John was a band director in the David Douglas school District for thirty years after graduating with bachelor's and master's degrees from Lewis and Clark College.
