The Vancouver Symphony’s Chamber Music Series presents “Afternoon Trios”
Starring principal Orchestra members in delightful sets of trios and shorter pieces showcasing the clarinet, piano and cello. Co-founders Dr. Igor Shakhman and Dr. Michael Liu will perform three showpiece works for clarinet and piano: Eastern Dances by the distinguished 20th-century Russian musician and teacher Sergei Vasilenko, Rigoletto Fantasia by composer Luigi Bassi who derived the piece from themes of Verdi’s opera Rigoletto, and Three Latin Dances by 21st-century composer and clarinetist Michele Mangani.
Also helping to support the VSO Chamber Series with this concert are VSO clarinetist and OPB CEO Steve Bass and longtime VSO cellist and supporter Suzanne Rague. They will be joined by Dr. Michael Liu on two sets of trio pieces for clarinet, cello, and piano. Featured will be a collection of short Character Pieces by the late romantic era Czech-German composer Alexis Hollaender as well as a collection of Trio Miniatures by another late romantic era composer, Russian-Swiss composer Paul Juon.
