The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra is looking for the next great student musicians at its 26th Annual Young Artists Competition with a Call for Entries

Students vie for over $15,000 in scholarship money and chance to perform with VSO

Each season, two of the best-attended and most eagerly anticipated events are the VSO’s live Young Artists Competition and the performances of the three winners with our orchestra at this season’s April 18th and 19th concerts. The VSO is thrilled to celebrate the incredible musical talent of our community’s young rising stars.


Applications must be received in The Vancouver Symphony Office no later than Tuesday December 3rd, 2019 at 4:00 pm

Eligibility

Students 18 years of age or under as of January 1, 2020, who reside in Oregon and Washington are eligible to compete in the categories of piano, strings and brass/woodwinds/percussion.

Following the initial judging of application CDs by select area musicians, the three top candidates in each category will compete January 12th, 2020, in front of an audience at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vancouver for the scholarship prizes of $3,000 for first place, $1,500 for second place and $750 for third place.

First place finishers then perform their winning selections with Maestro Brotons and The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra at our April 18th & 19th, 2020 concerts at Skyview Concert Hall.

Please note: every submission must be approved by the VSO office. It is recommended to get the approval of the repertoire early in the preparation process (September/October).
No unapproved submissions will be accepted. Absolutely no exceptions!

About The VSO

Now in its 41st season, The VSO has been a cornerstone of Southwest Washington's arts community, providing world-renowned classical music, promoting young musicians, and opening doors to classical music for young audiences through events such as the annual In-School concerts, Young Artists Competition and various family-styled special events and performances. A full-sized professional orchestra of over 70 core members provides performs a multi-concert classical season every year. Symphony performances are at Skyview Concert Hall, 1300 NW 139th Street, Vancouver.
